We’re working on marketing materials now and we’ve got a few options for the poster, DVD screen, postcards and other collateral. What do you think? Have any favorites among the three we’re showing here? If so, let us know your thoughts in the comments of this blog post.

We’d like you to help make the decision. So if you’re a member of the cast or crew, friends, family or curious bystanders, share your thoughts in the comments. You get to choose!
Be sure to keep several things in mind:
- Which design are you most likely to remember a day later? How about a month later?
- Which one truly makes you wonder what the film is about?
- Which one makes you curious enough to buy a ticket or to at least check out the website?
- Which one is the most likely to stand out on a wall with posters from many different movies from different genres?
- Which is the most professional?

If they’re numbered from left to right 1-3, I think #3 is the one that will stand out the most, due to the spaciousness of the design. #2 makes me wonder about the film the most. #3 makes me want to check out the movie most. Both #1 and #3 would be most likely that I’d remember, with #1 being a little more so.
1.Which design are you most likely to remember a day later? How about a month later? The cake is the one I am most likely to remember
2.Which one truly makes you wonder what the film is about? The one with the three actors the first one makes me wonder though I would put the girl up front flanked b the guys
3.Which one makes you curious enough to buy a ticket or to at least check out the website? Again the first one as it seems to promise something interesting
4.Which one is the most likely to stand out on a wall with posters from many different movies from different genres? The cake would stand out. Sorry guys but it would stand out as being bad. The pic is to busy with the tablecloth and it has an amature feel to it.
5.Which is the most professional? The poster with the three actors on it is the best I do not feel it would stand out from a wall of posters but it would look natural to see it surrounded by mainstream movie posters
You might photoshop the cake like you did the three actors and darken the top and the bottom…Yes I would definetly try that.
I like #1 with Eric, Kiaha, and myself!
It looks the best and most ‘real.’
Great job on all 3! There wasn’t a clear winner for me, but I’m leaning towards cake, of course! The barn would be my close 2nd choice. Looking forward to seeing it!
I really WANTED to like #2, but for some reason my attention kept coming back to #1. The great thing about #1 is that it seems antithetical to the title and the logline – if True Love can’t wait, if this is a wedding… why do these people look so unhappy? I think the first one definitely stands out from the herd for that reason. It fulfills the goal in question #2, and depending on the viewer might fulfill the goal in question #1.
I’d say that #2 would stand out more amongst other posters; if possible, however, I’d put more focus on the car and less on the figures on the cake. That’s the ‘quirk’ that makes this poster work.
Hope that helps…
As a designer, I’d say #2. Perhaps having the tagline in frosting would’ve been best as it seems like the type on the top is an afterthought. It also upsets the flow a little since it’s off to the left when most everything else in the comp is centered. But it’s more memorable…and wreaks of indy movie, which is just awesome. The mustang is a nice touch, though the one in the film is a late sixties model (67? I’ve only seen the trailer once.) and that’s a 2005+ model year. Which is way nitpicky so I’ll shut up now.
Not a fan of the unnatural vignetting on the first, though from a photographer’s stand point that expression is priceless. I like white space, but the last one isn’t entirely memorable.
My .03 pennies.
So, how do we vote there is not voting button as such…anyways….I like the first one from left. This postcard definitely piques my interest to know about the movie.
Cheers
I like the first one the best. It seems to draw me in and make me want to find out what the drama’s about. It also looks the most attractive and the most professional. My second choice would be poster number 2.
Love, love, love #2!
Nice work guys!
We’ve had three votes com in via email, all for poster #1. And my daughter likes the one with the cake for obvious reasons. Share your thoughts!
cake! both tina and i like the cake poster (narrowly ahead of poster 1). however, the “true love doesn’t wait” line gets lost in the tablecloth. so that would need to be revised. but it’s the one that will stand out. it’s the strongest visual. the red cloth pops and offers the subtext of passion and conflict. it would be my clear winner if the cake had an additional element of conflict.
poster #1 (choice 1a) does a good job of conveying the central angst…and i love the title typography; it seems to fit the story perfectly. but, the black enshrouding the image gives it too much of a macabre vibe. for me the “true love” line doesn’t really work here as well.
poster #3 is very nice, but almost too much so. it’s idyllic and doesn’t get to the conflict nor the humor of the story. but the layout and the “true love” line with the typography of the title are all balanced very well.
so…to answer your questions:
1. poster #2 stands out.
2. poster #1 gives the hint at the story
3. poster #1
4. poster #2
5. poster #2
Well, I love cake so that is a vote for the 2nd one. But the first one just really brings it for me so it gets my official vote.
I vote for the first one too! The cake is too generic, the blue-sky-and-barn is a beautiful photo but not as interesting as Eric’s scowl and crooked tie!
Can’t wait to see what happens next on the project!
I personally really like the first one. It seems to alive and like a feature film’s poster! Again, I vote for the first one… Thanks.
My vote is for #1 the cake a close 2nd.
I go for no one. It opens up possible scenarios and it starts you wondering.
I like poster 3 the best. Poster 1 doesn’t really say much about the story, I think from what I’ve seen of the trailer. Poster 2 is cute, and certainly wouldn’t be bad. I think poster 3 best captures the feel of the movie I got from the trailer. It’s expansive in a way the others aren’t.
I asked some family and friends for their opinions and got 3 votes for #1, 1 for #2 and 1 for #3. I think 1 and 2 are most reflective of the film’s dark comedic side, as I read it, but I really loved the landscape shots I’ve seen in the clips and trailer and #3 is equally beautiful as those shots. All that aside… every one i asked responded pretty quickly as to which one they liked. They all had pretty strong, not necessarily good, feelings about #2.
They all look professional. Go #1.
I have to say I like #3 the most. One is too busy, my eyes start to hurt and aren’t sure where to look. Two is too “Napoleon Dynomite” – too “it’s been done before”. Three is beautiful and seems most representative of what the trailer wants me to perceive of the finished product. Love that photo.
Thanks again everyone who shared their thoughts. When I tallied votes received by both comments and email, #1 had the edge. We’re going with a variation of that, though we may mix it up with posters and other collateral.
We’re sending a final cut to the folks at Da Vinci FF tomorrow, so we’re getting ready for the debut!
I know it’s too late to choose a poster, but just wanted to say that I’m anxious to see the movie.
#1 poster…It appears to me to be the one that stands out.
Good luck & my best wishes to your film company!
